WHALEVOLUTION

Now part of the permanent gallery in the London Natural History Museum’s “Mammals Hall”, this gradually evolving artwork visualises Darwin’s “infinitude of connecting links” between species throughout the 50-million year evolution of whales. Created as part of my science communication MSc (2016).

Featured by: Museum of The Earth (New York), Oceanology Whale Center of Hawaii (Maui), Exploratorium (San Francisco), Husavik Whale Museum (Iceland), Incredible Oceans, Aeon, Slate.

“The mind cannot possibly grasp the full meaning of the term of a hundred million years. It cannot add up and perceive the full effects of many slight variations, accumulated during an almost infinite number of generations.”
-On The Origin of Species

For full effect, just let the video run in the background and check in on it occasionally, like a clock!
