About JORDAN COLLVER
I am a freelance illustrator and research communicator using the power and possibilities of comics to tell non-fiction stories. I’m the artist of the Eisner-nominated comic Hocus Pocus: Magic, Mystery & The Mind, and the children's series Pets Tell Tales exploring history as told by animals. I work with scientists, doctors, historians and educators to visualize complex ideas both accurately and creatively for everyone to enjoy.
I have a masters in science communication from The University of the West of England, where I now occasionally lecture. I'm also an author and referee in The Journal of Science Communication and my work has featured in the London Natural History Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the World Health Organization, BBC Science Focus, Physics World, Slate, Science for the People, Nautilus, The Nib, Skeptical Inquirer, and several comic anthologies - including The Most Important Comic Book on Earth: Stories to Save the World.
I'm a regular contributor to the Bhamla Lab comic series of extraordinary organisms, and to MedMaster "Made Ridiculously Simple" medical textbooks. I was previously the Life of Breath project manager at the University of Bristol (2017-19) where I facilitated interdisciplinary research and public engagement.
My artwork combines traditional pen-and-ink and digital media to create clear, expressive images with a focus on design and composition. I am particularly interested in exploring the wonder of the natural world and the intersection of science, religion, and unusual beliefs.
I grew up in Ontario, Canada and have been living in the UK since 2010.
